The Old Man

The Old Man > A young man was walking down the street> On a cold, dark, wintry night,> As he walked, he glanced into the park> Where he saw an amazing sight.> There by a bench, he saw an old man> His hair was straggly and gray> His coat was tattered, his shoes had holes,> But, he heard that old man say.> "Dear Jesus it's almost Christmas,> The year's most important day".> "And here I am on bended knee,> "Cause there's something I need to say.> Lord I just want to thank you> For Your love and Your kindness too.> You've satisfied my every need> Since my life, I gave to you.> The young man walked over to the bench> And handed the old man some money".> The old man smiled and said "No Thanks"> "God makes sure I have plenty".> "I have my life, I have my health,> And I have the love of Jesus".> "What else could I ever ask,> Of the one who died to save us".> The young man turned and walked away> But, for some reason he felt rather weird.> So he stopped, looked back, and to his surprise> The old man had disappeared.> A box was laying there on the bench,> So he went back to take a look.> The note inside said "You've learned a lesson,> From God's own Holy Book".> "You thought I was in need of help,> And with love, you came to my rescue".> "You showed the true spirit of Christmas,> And your Guardian Angel thanks you". > The young man just stared at the note in his hand> As a tear slowly rolled down his cheek.> And he promised himself, for the rest of his life> The sweet grace of Jesus he'd seek.> Ron Lantz 2003
